UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty, the UNESCO National Committee for the Man and the Biosphere Program (MAB), and the Secretariat of the East Asian Network of Biosphere Reserves (EABRN) of UNESCO with the support of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea, and the Kazakhstan National Commission for UNESCO and ISESCO will organize the 15th meeting of the East Asian Biosphere Reserve Network on "Providing Models of Sustainable development", to take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan from 29 May to 2 June 2018.
Representatives of seven member states of EABRN - China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the Republic of Korea, Japan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mongolia and the Russian Federation, as well as representatives of nature reserves and national parks of Kazakhstan, which are members of world network of biosphere reserves, will take part in the event. In addition, representatives of Central Asian countries, the academic community of Kazakhstan, as well as international organizations will attend the event. Total more than 60 participants are expected to participate.The meeting will be held on the topic "Providing models of sustainable development". The main focus of the discussion will be on the Lima Action Plan and the EABRN development strategy. The main objective will be to apply the recommendations of the Lima Action Plan in the context of specificities of the East Asian network of reserves. During the meeting particular attention will be given to an exchange of experience of participating countries in the creation and management of biosphere reserves. A field assessment of the Altyn-Emel biosphere reserve will be carried out during the meeting. The meeting will also review recent achievements of the network, and the setting of new development priorities, including enhanced regional cooperation.
