Call for Entries for 2005 UNESCO Asia-Pasific Heritage Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation

The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is now accepting entries for the 2005 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation. Deadline for submissions: 30 April 2005.

The Awards programme recognizes outstanding conservation projects of the built heritage, undertaken by private sector entities or through public-private partnerships. In 2005, Baltit Fort (in Karimabad village in the Hunza region of Pakistan)has been honoured with the Award of Excellence. One of three Awards of Distinction went to St Ascension Cathedral (Almaty, Kazakhstan).

In addition to the established awards, a new awards category is being launched in 2005. The Jury Prize for Innovation will recognize newly-built structures which demonstrate outstanding standards for contemporary architectural design which are well integrated into historic contexts.

Entries for the 2005 Awards must be submitted in the format of the official entry form with drawings, photographs and written description. Entries must be received by the UNESCO Bangkok office by 30 April 2005. Winners will be announced in September 2005.
