The Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic has approved for use in secondary schools a document: "Practical Recommendations on HIV Policy in the Educational System".

This document is an adapted version of the regional recommendations developed by the UNESCO Moscow Office and the International Labour Organization. Adaptation was made with technical and financial support of the UNESCO Almaty Office.

More than 500 children and adolescents aged 0 to 19 years have officially registered as living with HIV in the Kyrgyz Republic (as of 01.03.2013). All of them and their parents may face, and may already have experienced the unfriendly attitude of people around them, including educators. The information presented in this document will help managers and employees of educational institutions in the Kyrgyz Republic to create favorable conditions for training, support and protection of students and educators living with HIV or affected by the HIV epidemic.

The document provide practical advice for organizing prevention education to stave off the further spread of the epidemic and reduce stigmatization and discrimination against people living with HIV, as well as for providing psychological, support and social protection of people with HIV in the educational system.

A presentation of the "Practical Recommendations on HIV Policy in Education System" was held at the I. Arabayev Kyrgyz State University in late April 2013.
