The Jonathan Mann Award was established in 1999 due to the rapid increase in the number of HIV-infections in Central Asia.
The purpose of the awards is to encourage HIV/AIDS prevention efforts among civil society, media and government institutions in the region. The awards of 1000 USD each, are handed out in connection with the World Aids Day on 1 December in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, to an individual, organisation or media outlet, which have made a significant contribution to HIV/AIDS prevention work. The award sponsored by UNAIDS, UNICEF, UNESCO, UNODC, UNIFEM,UNFPA and WHO is earmarked for further HIV/AIDS prevention efforts.Contact person: Clara Olasagasti Garcia.
