30 representatives of Kazak/Kyrgyz/Tajik and Uzbek National Libraries and Archives, Faculty of Journalism of al-Farabi Kazak State University and representatives of Russian Information for All committee celebrates today World Press Freedom Day and discussed issues of freedom of expression/information and experiences in building information society.
Murat Auezov, Director of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan says – “The demand of freedom of expression is very high in the newly independent states of the Central Asia, if the society is interested just in fractional knowledge, transformations to the best are impossible”.Ms Anjum Haque Head of UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office welcomed the participants with statement on training aims:
- Train decision makers of libraries and archives in basic principles of freedom of expression and freedom of information for good management in respective institutions
- Support libraries and archives in Central Asia for providing public access to public information (especially using ICT)
- Participation in celebration on World Press Freedom Day
Mr Sergey Karpov informed on UNESCO Achievements in field of Information Society Tools: Information Processing/Digital Libraies/Distance Learning/Training materials for Libraries and Archives
Representative of Russian Information for All committee Professor Dzyaloshinsky Head of Commission on Freedom of Information says - “80% of peoples thinking good and bad information exists, my opinion – the information is thing which is necessary to make the decision, at the end efficient decision. Freedom of information is needed to provide such basic human right”.
Second day: Two trainers prepared special training sessions presented by computer slides giving knowledge on basic principles of freedom of expression and Information. In small groups the participants will solve 9 problematic questions developing plans and strategies to use freedom of expression to strength two-way communications and improve management of their organisations. At the end of the workshop a recommendations are expected to will draft a plan for the development of the libraries and archives.
