The Second International Festival of Arts "Peace and Respect" took place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from April 26 to April 28. Within the frames of the Festival there was an Exhibition of Handicrafts "Oriental palette", Theatre Programme "Gates to Asia", Musical Programme "Colors" and Conference "Culture, Dialogue and Sustainable Development in Central Asia".
The Bishkek Festival "Peace and Respect" was held as a forum of arts and cultural representatives from countries of the region as well as from Switzerland, Belgium, the USA, and Japan. The Festival showed how cultural variety promotes strengthening links between participants and countries. A dialogue of cultures took place in all festival programmes such as Asia Gates Theatre, Colouring Music, Eastern Palette Applied Arts and Master and Apprentice Education.During the Festival five performances were shown in the Asia Gates Programme. Performers from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Switzerland, and Japan presented A Colours of Music Programme. Performances were shown not only in the capital city, but also in Osh. An exhibition of handicrafts from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan was held in the G. Aitiev Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts. A video exhibition entitled The Present in the cinema was presented. Master-classes Modern Theatrical Arts of Japan, Tajik Theatrical Arts and a creative meeting were held.
Information material: printing participants’ reports and the Festival informative booklet in two languages, all Festival programmes were basically presented in the modern cultural process of the participating countries. A group of experts studying the creative, philosophic, and cultural science aspects of arts and culture in all Festival events represented the Conference participants.
Conducting a scientific practical conference called Culture, Dialogue and Sustainable Development in Central Asia combined with the practical part that included reviewing Festival programmes.
None sociological research or a sociological survey has been carried out. The Festival organisers gathered publicity information about potential Festival participants during the preparatory period. During and after the Festival, press reviews about the Festival and participants and spectators’ comments were collected.
Conference "Culture, Dialogue and Sustainable development in Central Asia" was organized from 26 to 28 April 2004 within the framework of the Festival "Peace and Respect", Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Organizers of the conference were Public Fund after Arsen Umuraliyev with the support of the Government of Kyrgyz Republic and financial contribution from UNESCO, HIVOS and OSCE.

During the conference the dialogue between region participants established, opinions exchanged, reports on the state of the cultural processes in each country presented and future collaboration projects initiated. Information materials of the festival and the conference included informative booklet with the programme in two languages, participants’ reports and presentations. At present, participants’ articles and conference results are expected to be published. Funds for publication of the conference materials are being sought. A multimedia disc that will give full information about the Festival and conference content is also being prepared.
