New UNESCO Network of Women Philosophers 600 Strong

8 April 2007

After just one month of existence, membership in the UNESCO International Network of Women Philosophers already numbers more than 600.

The UNESCO International Network of Women Philosophers was officially launched on 8 March 2007 as part of the celebration of International Women’s Day.

The Network aims to provide a platform for women philosophers to give their points of view on a broad range of subjects related to philosophy and, and not only on topics related to gender.

The Network will actively contribute to the international celebrations of World Philosophy Day, Interregional Philosophical Dialogues, as well as to the promotion of the teaching of philosophy in the world.

UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences Pierre Sane announced on 4 April, "Thanks to the efforts of our partners, including numerous Permanent Delegations to UNESCO, National Commissions for UNESCO, UNESCO Philosophy Chairs, philosophy institutions, relevant NGOs, colleagues and others, the Network at this date counts more than 600 women philosophers."
