Parliamentarians from six CIS countries will meet in Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyz Republic 12-13 September with the aim to improve policy regarding the growing labour migration in the region.
The two-day technical meeting will be hosted by the Eurasian Economic Council (EuraSec) and will unite some 50 parliamentarians, civil society leaders and international organizations working on regional labour migration issues.Countries represented will be Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, The Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Two draft law projects, "On Regulation of Employment Agencies and Job Placement" and "On Regulation of Labour Migration" will be elaborated at the meeting for consideration at the national level by participant countries.
UNESCO Almaty, the Eurasia Foundation Central Asia and the Soros Foundation Kyrgyzstan are partnering in the event.
The meeting continues the work of the Expert Council on Labour Migration in Central Asia and the Russian Federation, a consultative body formed in 2006 with UNESCO's participation. The group's goal is to harmonize migration legislation among states in the region. The Expert Council operates under the auspices of EuraSec.
