The UNESCO cluster office in Almaty in partnership with the Division of Environmental and Earth Sciences of UNESCO and GEF/UNDP projects in Kazakhstan for the development of transboundary biosphere reserves and conservation of wetlands is organizing a training workshop on the biosphere reserves nomination process; networking and creation of transboundary biosphere reserves in Central Asia, in Almaty, Kazakhstan 26-27 May 2010.
The aim of the training workshop is to clarify the World Network Biosphere Reserves (WNBR) nomination process and to discuss any concerns or proposals of MAB national committees regarding further development and management of biosphere reserves in Central Asia.This regional meeting will bring together representatives of MAB national committees, biosphere reserve administrators and policymakers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Russian Federation. Participants will discuss new nominations from the countries to WNBR and identify possible follow-up activities on transboundary biosphere reserves networking that could be initiated in the CA region, possibly in cooperation with other development partners.
