What does it mean to be a humanitarian worker?

On 16 August,2021, the UN Refugee Agency with UNESCO's support will hold a lecture for young people from Central Asia on the topic: "What does it mean to be a humanitarian worker?"

This year marks the 70th anniversary of one of the main international agreements that help in solving humanitarian problems - the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees. In celebration of this date and in honor of World Humanitarian Day, which is celebrated on August 19, the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) will deliver a lecture to Central Asian youth on what it means to be a humanitarian worker through the work of UNHCR.

During the lecture, you will learn about the specifics of working in the humanitarian field and about the opportunities for young people who dream of working in an international organization.

Every year, natural disasters, armed conflicts and other emergencies inflict immense suffering on millions of people. Four UN entities: UNDP, UNHCR, UNICEF and WFP play a leading role in providing emergency assistance in these situations.

UNHCR conducts and coordinates international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems around the world. For 70 years, UNHCR has been helping people who had to flee their homes to escape conflict and persecution. Today, with the number of internally displaced persons around the world exceeding 82 million, UNHCR's humanitarian work is more relevant than ever.
