ALMATY, June 27-28, 2022 - Parents of children with special needs, parent organizations and non-governmental organizations working in the field of protecting the rights and interests of families with children with special needs met at the Advocacy School training organized by the Balama Center with the support of UNESCO.
30 participants from 15 regions of Kazakhstan explored the topic of advocacy with Jonathan Ellis, an expert in civil society capacity building and advocacy around the world.
The practical part of the training included a discussion of real issues and obstacles parents of children with special needs are facing in the field of education, healthcare, social protection. Participants also learned about new advocacy strategies and their effective implementation in practice.
The participants of the training came to the conclusion that the human rights activities that they carry out every day require the development of a national strategy to promote the rights of persons with special needs, and also expressed their readiness to participate in its formation.
