Training workshop on “Satellite precipitation estimation for scientists and government officials in Central Asia” successfully completed

During the three-day seminar, professors from the University of California introduced the participants to the system of the PERSIANN algorithm (The Precipitation Estimation from Remotely Sensed Information using Artificial Neural Networks) and their capabilities in climate risk management, also taught skills and methods of their use for monitoring and analysis. The seminar included eight lectures and three laboratory sessions developing the technical potential of students in assessing precipitation in various regions and strengthening knowledge about remote sensing technologies.


As a result of the seminar, the participants learned how to use the PERSIAN algorithm system, including the iRain system, for climate risk management. The participants also exchanged experiences and strengthened cooperation between Central Asian countries in the field of weather and climate monitoring. As a result, on the last day, the participants presented their works and more than 40 participants received certificates from the organizers.

This kind of workshops are valuable, because many researchers don't know about such open source data. Moreover, when the developers of such platforms introduce and explain how to use them, it's even more beneficial.
