28 July 2016

The first Youth Forum on Sustainable Development: "The Road to 2030: Achieving Sustainable Production and Consumption" dedicated to the International Youth Day was held on 26 August 2016 in Almaty.

Youth should be given a chance to take an active part in the decision-making of local, national and global levels.”

Ban Ki-Moon United Nations Secretary-General at the 7th UNESCO Youth Forum in Paris, 2011

The UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty, with the support of UNDP, the Foundation of the First President of Kazakhstan and the UN Information Office initiated the Forum.

The Forum focused on the leading role of young people in achieving sustainable development through responsible production and consumption.

Youth representatives had an opportunity to present their projects and startups on sustainable development and in particular, in justice accessibility, food security, water sustainability, energy utilization, ecological efficiency, sustainable transport and innovations in the framework of the Kazakhstan's transition to a Green Economy Model.

Experts from international organisations, national companies, public authorities as well as civil society actors attended the Forum and exchanged experience with the youth participants and identified solutions to sustainability.

By the end of the one-day Forum the list of the most successful projects and startups was established for their further support and implementation.

Thus, the first Youth Forum in Almaty provided youth with a platform for a dialogue on the global challenges they are facing today and an opportunity to contribute in decision-making process.
