Sub-Regional Workshop for the Elaboration of a Three-Year Action Plan for Preservation of Heritage Sites in Central Asia

The Workshop was held in Ichan Kala of Khiva, Uzbekistan, from 24 to 29 April 2004. CentralAsianEarth 2002-2012 is a programme of the World Heritage Centre of UNESCO realised and in partnership with the National Institutions of CentralAsia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan) responsible for the conservation of immovable cultural heritage, UNESCO offices in Central Asia (Almaty, Tashkent and Teheran) and other UNESCO divisions, ICCROM, ICOMOS, and other specialised institutions and with the technical support of CRATerre-EAG.

CentralAsianEarth 2002-2012 aims at building capacity of the site-management authorities and technical experts in Central Asia for enhanced conservation, presentation, and management of the world cultural heritage or future world cultural heritage in this region through close co-operation at international, regional, and national levels.

The participants of the «Sub-regional meeting for the elaboration of a specific programme for the first three years of the CAE programme, 24-29 April, 2004, Khiva, Uzbekistan, would like to thank the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, the Gvt. Of Uzbekistan, the city of Khiva, the province of Boston, the National Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan for UNESCO, the UNESCO Field Offices of Almaty, Tashkent and Teheran, and CRATerre-EAG for supporting and co-organising this first meeting to launch the CentralAsianEarth programme.

The participants adopted the following three year action plan to be implemented between 2004 and 2007.

The participants call upon UNESCO to continue supporting this important regional programme and to assist mobilising extraordinary funding to enable implementation of the CentralAsianEarth programme 2002-2012.
