Video competition: Silk Road World Heritage Sites Through the Eyes of Expert Tourist Guides in 3 minutes

We invite you to participate in a video competition ’Silk Road World Heritage Sites Through the Eyes of Expert Tourist Guides in 3 minutes’.

DEADLINE TO APPLY IS EXTENDED UNTIL 28 MAY 2021

The competition is organized by UNESCO Almaty with support from the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) in the framework of the “Silk Roads Heritage Corridors in Afghanistan, Central Asia and Iran – International Dimension of the European Year of Cultural Heritage” project funded by the European Union and implemented by UNESCO.

The assessment criteria will be as follows :
a. clear and explicit presentation of tangible or intangible cultural heritage, clear structure and completeness;
b. creative idea;
c. complexity of realization;
d. excellent visual material;
e. originality;
f. max. 3 minutes lengths;
g. engaging and interactive presentation; use of story-telling skills;
h. good vocabulary and language skills;
i. good quality of sound (use of stabilizers and microphones is highly recommended).


Submissions will be accepted from 15 April to 28 May 2021, 18.00 Almaty time.

Competition terms:
a. The Competition is open to tourist guides of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan aged 18 or older by the time the competition is announced.
b. Only one entry per person is allowed. Each participant may only submit one video.
c. Participants must not use copyrighted videos/materials.
d. Participants must provide unpublished original material that they have created.
e. Videos must be no longer than 3 minutes.
f. Videos can be in English or Russian.
g. Mobile phone videos are accepted.
h. Participation in the Competition is free of charge, participants are responsible for their own costs e.g. connecting to the Internet, visiting places of interest to make video, etc.
i. UNESCO Almaty reserves the right to exclude competition participants for not corresponding to the participation requirements.
j. The Competition includes 2 stages: stage 1 – selection of the best 20 videos by a panel of judges and stage 2 –public vote in the social media.

Prizes:
1. Free of charge participation in the online WFTGA Master Class on Interpretation and Presentation Skills (for 20 shortlisted finalist candidates).
2. A pack of branded UNESCO/EU Project merchandises for the two winning videos (one in Russian, one in English). The two winning videos will be selected based on a number of “likes” in the official social media accounts of UNESCO Almaty (Instagram) and WFTGA (Instagram).

How to Enter
a. Choose one of the tangible objects or intangible cultural heritage (ICH) elements of the Silk Roads you wish to present to the audience. The proposed list of Silk Roads cultural heritage properties is here and the list of ICH elements is here.
b. Make a video, presenting the cultural heritage of the Silk Roads or intangible cultural heritage element (length of the video – no more than 3 minutes)
c. Accept the Competition Rules by filling out all the required fields of the Registration Form  Registration Form_ENG.docx 
d. Submit the videos via WeTransfer sharing platform, pCloudTransfer or MEGA with the Registration Form not later than 28 May 2021, 18.00 Almaty time to [email protected], subject line: “SR Video competition”. Label your video in the following format: SR_videocomp_YourLastName.
