The winners of the Essay competition dedicated to International Literacy Day 2021

The Essay competition was held under the theme “Literacy and digital skills during COVID-19 pandemic”.

Among 57 entries from Central Asian countries, the following winners were selected. These young thinkers are sharing their vision for the prevention of the digital divide for more equitable and inclusive education.

Certificates of appreciation and pack of branded UNESCO merchandises will be awarded to the following winners of the contest with original essays and strong argumentation of ideas:

- Volovikova Viktoriya, 18 years old, student of the South Kazakhstan State Pedagogical University, Shymkent, Kazakhstan
- Ziroyan Viktoriya, 16 years old, student of the School-lyceum ¹7 named after N. Marabaev, Aktau, Kazakhstan
- Kolbayeva Zhamiyla, 18 years old, student from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
- Pak Milana, 15 years old, student of the School ¹117, Almaty, Kazakhstan
- Glavatskih Alan, 16 years old, student of the School-lyceum ¹79, Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan
- Blazhko Anastasiya, 18 years old, student of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School, Kokshetau, Kazakhstan
- Valman Diana, 16years old, student of the Alma School, Almaty, Kazakhstan

UNESCO Almaty Education team has also decided to provide certificates of appreciation and incentive prizes to the following participants, who also demonstrated good argumentation and clear flow of ideas:

- Kazantceva Milana, 16 years old, student of the Linguistic College at KazUIR & WL named after Ablai Khan, Almaty, Kazakhstan
- Nurgali Din-Muhamet, 17 years old, student of the Kazakh Academy of Sports and Tourism, Almaty, Kazakhstan
- Sarsembayeva Aigerim, 17 years old, student of the UNESCO Associated School "BEST", Almaty, Kazakhstan
- Kabdrash Sakat, 13 years old, student of the School ¹2 of the village of Marinovka, Akmola oblast, Kazakhstan
