UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office organized a visual storytelling contest "Multilingualism and literacy: value for Kazakhstan and the world".
The contest took place on the occasion of the annual International Literacy Day celebrated on 8 September. The competition invited school pupils in Kazakhstan, including from the UNESCO Associated Schools,the Kazakhstan National Federation of UNESCO Clubs and OSCE multilingual school network.
The participants of the contest with the help of video stories showcased the importance of multilingualism for literacy, educational and job opportunities as well as peace and prosperity in Kazakhstan and the world. Five students from three schools became winners of the competition:
- 1st place: Alan Mashen, Almaty International School, 10 "L"
- 2nd place: Baktur Dias, Kazakh National Academy of Arts (UNESCO Club), 9 class
- 3rd place: Nadil Nurakhmetov, Buvihabibam Nuruzoca and Sultan Kasimov, gymnasium #153, 10-“À”
The award ceremony took place on October 25 in the UNESCO Almaty office. Krista Pikkat, Director of the office, congratulated the winners and handed them certificates and prizes, including smart phone (1st place), hard drive (2nd place) and power banks (3rd place).
