More than fifty software developers, acadmics, development organizations, governmental decision makers, and other information and communication technology (ICT) experts from Central Asia, Russia and Afghanistan meet in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on 6 to 7 July, to plan for national FOSS strategies for development in Central Asia.
The meeting is being organized by UNESCO together with the Public Fund Global Internet Policy Initiative Tajikistan and the Open Society Institute Tajikistan.The meeting is expected to contribute to an increased awareness about FOSS, an increased capacity to use FOSS for development purposes, and most importantly, to initiate national strategies for the use of FOSS in Central Asia.
The main focus of the meeting is on software applications that have been developed, localized or which are supported by UNESCO, including:

- E-Bilim - (E-Knowledge) server and open distance learning software for rural secondary schools teachers
